Hello.  Good morning.

Today I am going into Winnipeg and will bringing my mom a belated birthday present.  Meatball curry!

I am also going to be making a red lentil dahl and chapati bread if my morning goes smoothly.

I have never made this dahl recipe but I thought it sounded great so I am going to try it.

I love Indian food.
When I was in college, my dear friends, endured going out for Indian food for my birthday 3 years in a row.  I don't think any of them liked it very much.

When I lived in Edmonton after high school, my dad and me would go to the same Indian buffet almost weekly.  Or I remember it being weekly, anyway.  The samosa's they served were the best I have ever had.

What about Indian sweets?  Do you any of you like those??  Most people don't because of the texture of them.  I could eat, and did, eat entire boxes of it by myself because no one else liked it.
I was really sad about that.  ;)

Most people eat naan with their Indian food but the best flat bread for curry is chapati.  It is super simple to make (whole wheat flour, salt, water) and is so tasty.  It is more pliable than naan so it is easier to use as an eating utensil when eating with your fingers.

It looks like this

And you use it to eat like this!

My kitchen is calling my name.  Well, actually the dishes in my kitchen are so I can start making this Indian meal in my mind.  I will take some pictures and post them tomorrow.

Have a great Thursday all!

Yesterday the story of Job and the bleeding woman who just needed to touch the bottom of Christ's robe for healing were on my mind all day.  It was a long, hard day.

The images I found for Job articulate moments of my day very well.
Finding images for the bleeding woman that resonated with me proved more difficult so
I abandoned that idea.

Also, it is a dangerous thing to type in woman touching..... in a Google search.
Whoa.  Good thing I was typing fast!

Job

I love the image above the most.  So many of my days I feel like this on the inside.
I love art that articulates my emotions for me.

Currently I am reading One Thousand Gifts and this verse stood out to me this morning.

"He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show
him the salvation of God"  (Psalm 50:23)

The idea of thank offerings being a sacrifice.
I will ponder this all day

And another piece of art for you to linger on

SATURDAY

It will bother you off and on, like a rock in your shoe,
Or it will startle you, like the first crash of thunder in a summer storm,
Or it will lodge itself beneath your skin like a splinter,
Or it will show up again—the uninvited guest whose heavy footsteps you’d recognize anywhere, appearing at your front door with a suitcase in hand at the worst. possible. time.
Or it will pull you farther out to sea like rip tide,
Or hold your head under as you drown—
Triggered by an image, a question, something the pastor said, something that doesn’t add up, the unlikelihood of it all, the too-good-to-be-trueness of it, the way the lady in the thick perfume behind you sings “Up from the grave he arose!” with more confidence in the single line of a song than you’ve managed to muster in the past two years.
And you’ll be sitting there in the dress you pulled out from the back of your closet, swallowing down the bread and wine, not believing a word of it.
Not. A. Word.
So you’ll fumble through those back pocket prayers—“help me in my unbelief!”—while everyone around you moves on to verse two, verse three, verse four without you.
You will feel their eyes on you, and you will recognize the concern behind their cheery greetings: “We haven’t seen you here in a while! So good to have you back.”
And you will know they are thinking exactly what you used to think about Easter Sunday Christians:
Nominal.
Lukewarm.
Indifferent.
But you won’t know how to explain that there is nothing nominal or lukewarm or indifferent about standing in this hurricane of questions every day and staring each one down until you’ve mustered all the bravery and fortitude and trust it takes to whisper just one of them out loud on the car ride home:
“What if we made this up because we’re afraid of death?”
And you won’t know how to explain why, in that moment when the whisper rose out of your mouth like Jesus from the grave, you felt more alive and awake and resurrected than you have in ages because at least it was out, at least it was said, at least it wasn’t buried in your chest anymore, clawing for freedom.
And, if you’re lucky, someone in the car will recognize the bravery of the act. If you’re lucky, there will be a moment of holy silence before someone wonders out loud if such a question might put a damper on Easter brunch.
But if you’re not—if the question gets answered too quickly or if the silence goes on too long—please know you are not alone.
There are other people signing words to hymns they’re not sure they believe today, other people digging out dresses from the backs of their closets today, other people ruining Easter brunch today, other people just showing up today.
And sometimes, just showing up -  burial spices in hand -  is all it takes to witness a miracle

Hi All

Sorry there was no post yesterday.  I went away for the weekend with my Foodie Girls and forgot to post.

I will have to post pictures from my trip another time.

Today I need to figure out how to prioritize my time.

Taxes are due to the bankruptcy trustee and totalling all of Jon's work stuff is proving to be very time consuming.  I worked on it for 3 hours last night and I suspect I will do that same tonight.

I have 3 orders for fabric banners that I need to sew and I'm not sure where I am going
to squeeze in sewing them.

School needs to get done

Friends need to be coffee'd up

The dance of squeezing it all in without burning out begins!

Say a prayer and wish me luck everyone

Have a wonderful Tuesday! The weather in Steinbach is wonderful today.

A Breakfast, A Lunch and A Supper

I had taken some pictures of food I had eaten in the last 8 days but most of the pictures were not very good.

So I picked the 3 best ones.  One each of breakfast, lunch and supper.

This is a very typical breakfast for me.  A home made muffin (low fat with lots of vegetables and fibre in them) and 3/4 cup fat free Greek yoghurt with 1 cup of berries.
I was living on the wild side with the cheese this morning.
Do you like my fancy dishes?
Are you getting tired of looking at my Starbucks mug yet?
(It is in most of my table pictures if you hadn't noticed already)

This day for lunch I had a home made purred cauliflower soup (made with stock and some milk), cornmeal muffins made with yoghurt and whipped eggs whites.  I really like this recipe.  I will have to post it one day. And on top of my muffins were some bagged coleslaw mixed together with a little bit of mayo, a splash of vinegar, almonds and turkey left overs.  It was a super yummy lunch.

And today, for supper, I had half of a steak and 2 pieces of spinach ricotta pie.  It was super yummy.

Here is the recipe for the Spinach Ricotta Pie, taken from a library book.

Spinach Ricotta Pie

1 tsp butter
3 tbsp wheat germ
1  1/4 pound fresh spinach (I think I might have used 2lbs)
16 oz low fat ricotta cheese
4 eggs
1/2 cup green onions
2 tbsp fresh chopped mint (Next time I will use dill.  I did not love the mint)

Use the butter to grease a 9" cake pan
Sprinkle 2 tbsp of wheat germ into the bottom of the pan
Wilt the spinach and squeeze out excess liquid
Combine ricotta, eggs, green onions and mint.
Add cooled off and drained spinach
Pour into pan and sprinkle remaining wheat germ on top
Bake at 350F until done.
(The recipe said 35min but it took a bit longer.  It will puff up and then you will know it's done.)
Let rest for 5-10 min before cutting and serving

I had a slice for breakfast today.  And I will have some for lunch.  It's yummy.

And in closing, on a completely unrelated food topic,
I am LOVING this Instagram account and blog.  I have spent hours pouring over the pictures and the captions with each one.  Check it out.  It will totally be worth your time.

My opinion of what a home should be is this

It needs to be tidy, loved, lived in and have some colour.
My home is not a display case for pretty things that cannot be touched.
I need to feel at home in my home and so do my husband and kids.

With that said!  Here are some pictures of rooms that I have in an imaginary home that I own.

I can see me and my family living in all the rooms...  well.  Except the pink rooms.  Jon HATES pink and I kind of love it.

However!!  Since I am imagining this home, I will also imagine that Jon and I share a love of pink!!  Perfect.

So this is my favourite style of house.  They are from the Arts&Craft movement in the early 1900's.
I can see myself living in a house like this very easily.

This is the back door to the kitchen, of course.

And this is a great kitchen.  Cozy, inviting and wanting for some lively conversation with loved ones.  The only thing I would change would be the chairs.  They really should be wood, all painted and mismatched.

The next 4 pictures are the 4 living rooms I have.  Because I can.  It's my imaginary house.

And some bedrooms are needed.
This is the master bedroom. It's a good thing Jon loves pink!

Guest Bedrooms 1 and 2

The kids will be allowed to decorate their own rooms so they don't get imaginary rooms in my house.
Who knows what they will do!  I just can't get into their brains for that one.

And this is where we will dine outside.  I think it is perfection.

Thank you for visiting my imaginary home.

I do not love animals.

But I sure do have a lot of them around my house!
I noticed the other day that I have animals everywhere I look.  Which is strange because I really could care less about animals.

I know.  All you animal lovers are hyperventilating.

If I didn't give birth to it, I'm not cleaning up it's faecal matter.

That's where you animal lovers loose me. Cleaning up after animals is nasty.

Even at the petting zoo, the cute little chick, crapped on my hand!!

Any way....

Here are some animals that I do love to have around my home.
The non shitting kind.

This is my friend Erin.

We have been friends for around 8 years, give or take a few months.
There are many things we have been through together and one of them is our ever changing hair styles and colours.  In fact, my very first introduction to Erin was because of our mutual "crazy hair"

Jon and me had just moved to Steinbach and were trying out churches.  We were at Stoneybrook Fellowship one morning and a little spit-fire of a blond woman comes up to me after the service and says,

"You have to meet my daughter in law!  She has crazy hair just like you!"
(or something to that affect)

So, we went back the next Sunday and I met Erin for the first time.
And 8 years later, she is one of my best friends, and we still have crazy hair.

Last Wednesday night, her and I had a date to dye her hair purple so that's what we did!

Below is a short photo essay of our night.
I kind of love it.

I love the purple hair on my sweet friend.
